Study Options

SUF students have the option of taking courses at the Florence Center, the Centro per Stranieri, or the Università di Firenze.

The majority of SUF students take their courses at the Florence Center in Piazza Savonarola and Piazzale Donatello. All coursess, except for Italian Language and Culture, are taught in English.

The Centro per Stranieri is for students with advanced Italian language skills who want to take courses in Italian with students from different parts of Europe and the world where the only common language spoken is Italian.

Students with highly developed language skills may take their courses in Italian (or in some cases English) at the Università di Firenze through the SUF Direct Placement option.

Signature Seminars

In addition to regular semester courses, SUF students have the opportunity to participate in a Signature Seminar. The Greek Odyssey is offered just before the fall semester and just after the spring semester, while Eco-City Europe is offered after the spring semester only.

Interdisciplinary Clusters

Interdisciplinary clusters, such as Gender & Sexuality Studies and Sustainable Living, permit students to explore an interdisciplinary field in greater depth in location-specific courses, where the city of Florence—and Italy itself—serve as an extended classroom.
